In 1913, Brewery's rust-free steel was used in the manufacture of kalari, and at the same time, Alfred Krupp of Germany developed a similar corrosion-resistant steel.


Over the next few decades, stainless steel compositions were improved, with nickel added to enhance corrosion resistance. During World War I, stainless steel found its value in military applications.


The development of different grades of stainless steel with different properties led to the adoption of stainless steel in a variety of applications, including dining, kitchen, and catering.
